The building blocks of our closets are made of cotton and wool. Silk is our flourish, the cherry on top. It's found in the form of neckties, pocket squares, and of course, ascots. It's the domain of joy and exuberance. It's elegant drape and lush pattern. It's music more than math. It's artistry. It's where we expand and enjoy.
Man doesn't work all his days. He works some, he rests some, he plays some. If cotton and wool are his tools of labor, silk is his object of play. Of course it's not so simple. Nothing ever is. Cotton and wool aren't only for our utilitarian needs. A Prince of Wales check and a pink university stripe are joyful too. But they, in their more rugged composition, are something different than fine silk.
We need building blocks for our closet, and we need flourish as well. We need work, and we need play.
